Emirates Chooses Los Angeles As Third U.S. Gateway

Just three months after launching flights to Houston, its second U.S. gateway in the U.S. in addition to New York Kennedy, Emirates is expected on Thursday to announce that it will inaugurate new flights to Los Angeles this fall.
On Sept. 1, Emirates expects to become the first Gulf region carrier to fly to the U.S. West Coast when it launches flights from Dubai to Los Angeles. It intends to use the 777-200LR on the route.

The Los Angeles flights will be the longest in its network, taking 15 hrs. 55 mins. to fly to Los Angeles and 16 hrs. 35 mins. to return. :shock: :shock: :shock:

quoto....sono 18h e 50 min di volo se nn erro....avrei bisogno di un aereo grande come una nave per nn stare mal (3 piani con ristorante cinema sala giochi ecc.... :mrgreen:

Certo che tra scegliere di farsi 18 ore circa siggillati in un aereo o farne circa 20 di cui una e mezza a terra c'è poco da stare allegri :mrgreen:

Esperienza di vita personale: sceglierei comunque il volo con l'aereo più moderno (il non-stop in questo caso) oppure farei uno scalo più lungo di un paio d'ore, as esempio almeno mezza giornata.

Del resto se uno vuole andare agli antipodi, fino a che gli aereorazzi suborbitali non raggiungeranno la maturita' industriale, un po' di tempo deve metterlo in conto.... :roll:

E' decisamente un bel salto, infatti SQ usa sul quel volo il 345 configurato con la business e una economy plus denominata executive. Pitch maggiore, file a 2-3-2- ecc.
E' il minimo per un volo simile; anch'io credo che opterei per uno scalo, anche se la curiosità di provarlo ci sarebbe. 8)

Boh, avro' troppo la mentalita' del turista, ma per me sorvolare il Polo Nord e' decisamente interessante di suo.

Immagino che a gran parte dei pax di quel volo la cosa non possa interessare di meno.... quello che conta e' andare dal punto A al punto B nel modo piu' comodo.

Ti sei perso la recentissima decisione di SQ di riconvertire i 345 in all business, con le poltrone dell' ultima versione.


LOS ANGELES, March 4, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Citing consistently strong demand from business travelers, Singapore Airlines has announced plans to convert its five Airbus A340-500 ultra-long-range aircraft into an all-Business Class configuration, on daily flights between New York and Singapore, and Los Angeles and Singapore.

The current 2-class, 181 seat, configuration will be replaced with 100 of the airline's new, award-winning, Business Class seats in a 1-2-1, configuration. At 30-inches, the seats are the widest Business Class offering in the sky.

Unique to Singapore Airlines' widebody aircraft, every seat will have direct access to the aisle, and convert to a horizontal flat bed. The new Business Class seats are the same design as those installed on the Airline's A380 and B777-300ER fleet.

The implementation will be phased in gradually from mid-May, 2008, on the New York (Newark) to Singapore route, with daily services in the new configuration to New York by the end of June, and Los Angeles by late September 2008. The program will require each of the five aircraft to be retrofitted in turn.

To manage the retrofit program, the existing daily Los Angeles to Singapore non-stop flight will not operate on Tuesdays between mid-May and late-June. There will be no change to New York service frequency.

Customers who are currently booked in Executive Economy Class on the A340-500 services, which will be affected by the conversion, will be re-accommodated where possible on existing Singapore Airlines services between Los Angeles, New York and Singapore. [...]

È stato fatto un reportage sulla questa rotazione di SQ...la piú lunga al momento, credo...ma ricordo anche le rotazioni da 23 giorni in LH...bei tempi ricordi...tempi che non torneranno piú!
