Lufthansa Cargo Grounds 2 Airbus A321P2F After Cracks Found In Fuselage
German flag carrier Lufthansa has grounded two of its A321-200P2Fs after reportedly discovering a crack in their aft fuselage, prompting concerns for the conversion design. The grounding of Lufthansa’s freighters is the first for the aircraft type.
Lufthansa currently operates a fleet of four of the converted Airbus narrowbody freighter, first taking delivery of the type in January 2022. The four aircraft vary in age between 11 and 20 years old, entering service with Niki, Air Jamaica, and Air Berlin in passenger service before being converted by Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW). After discovering the cracks in early December, Lufthansa temporarily grounded all four A321P2Fs during a peak season for air cargo traffic, before returning two of its aircraft to service, according to a local report.
